Brown is a school that looks for individualityAug 10 2004Sociology
Brown is a school that looks for individuality. The admissions office definately wants to hear your story. That is not to say that you have to have "saved the world" by your senior year of High School. It is to say that your extracurricular accomplishments and the things about which you are passionate, no matter how mundane they may seem, should be highlighted in your app..

I talked a lot about my internships in finance, my High-School debate career, but also about collecting comics as a kid. Keep things interesting for the admissions office, and show them that you're more than a GPA/SAT score.

Brown, probably more than any other Ivy, isn't justJun 22 2004Economics
Brown, probably more than any other Ivy, isn't just about academics. Getting into Brown requires that you really shows admissions something special or unique about you. With such a competitive pool of applicants applying here, you really need to have more than just solid marks to get admitted. However, you need those solid marks to be seriously considered for the most part. Overall, being a well-rounded type of student with some "special" interests or passions (that you can of course document or elaborate upon) will help you out in Brown's quirky admissions game.

I won't lie to you getting into Brown isOct 18 2003History/Histories (art history/etc.)
I won't lie to you; getting into Brown is exceedingly difficult! If anything, Brown likes students that it believes will take advantage of its open curriculum. Therefore, having varied academic interests and strengths will help you. Having a particularly strong extracurricular talent (e.g. music, art, a sport, some really special community work, etc.) also is important, as there are just so many qualified people applying to Brown that you really need to distinguish yourself. Admission here is such a crapshoot though so don't be dissapointed if you don't get in. You can always try to transfer later on if you're still hung up on Brown, which is perfectly understandable.
